Remove Silence from Video

Automatically cut silences and dead air from any video. The detector finds every pause right in your browser, shows you exactly what gets cut with adjustable sensitivity, then jump-cuts the video on our server. Perfect for talking-head videos, tutorials, lectures, and podcasts.

Removing silence from a video detects every pause in the audio and jump-cuts them out, turning an hour of raw talking-head footage into a tight edit without manual scrubbing. EditClips.online analyzes the audio right in your browser, shows exactly which silences will be cut with adjustable threshold and minimum-pause sliders, then renders the jump-cut video. Upload, tune the preview, click Process, and download the tightened video.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I remove silence from a video automatically?
Upload the video and the detector analyzes its audio track for pauses below a loudness threshold. You see every detected silence on a level strip — cyan parts are kept, gray parts are cut — plus the new duration. Adjust the threshold if it's cutting too much or too little, then click Process. The server renders the jump-cut in one pass.
How much time does silence removal save?
Unscripted talking-head recordings are typically 15-35% silence — pauses for thinking, breaths, re-takes. A 20-minute raw recording often tightens to 14-16 minutes. The preview shows your exact number before you process anything.
Will the cuts sound abrupt?
The detector leaves 0.15 seconds of padding on each side of every cut, so words are never clipped mid-syllable. The minimum-pause slider also prevents micro-cuts: pauses shorter than your setting (default 0.6s) are left alone, keeping natural speech rhythm intact.
What kind of videos does this work best on?
Anything speech-driven: talking-head YouTube videos, tutorials, screen recordings with narration, lectures, sermons, interviews, and video podcasts. It's not meant for music videos or footage where quiet parts are intentional — though the threshold slider lets you keep quiet-but-intentional sections by lowering sensitivity.
Does my video upload before I see the preview?
No — the silence detection runs entirely in your browser on a lightweight copy of the audio track. Nothing uploads until you click Process, so experimenting with the sliders is instant and private.
Can I remove silence from just an audio file?
This tool is built for video. For podcast audio, you can run the audio file through anyway (output as MP4) or extract the tightened audio afterward with our audio extractor.
Why doesn't it find any silences in my video?
Either the recording has continuous background noise above the threshold (raise the threshold slider toward -25 dB), or it genuinely has no pauses longer than the minimum. Noisy recordings benefit from cleaning the audio first with our AI audio denoiser, then running silence removal on the cleaned file.
