- What LUFS should my podcast be?
- −16 LUFS integrated with true peaks under −1 dBTP is the common podcast target (Apple Podcasts, Spotify for Podcasters recommend around −16 for stereo, −19 for mono). Speech that sits much quieter gets turned up by some apps and left quiet by others, so hitting the target yourself is the reliable way.
- What LUFS does Spotify or YouTube use?
- Both normalize playback to about −14 LUFS integrated. Louder masters are turned down, so extra loudness buys nothing; quieter masters are turned up on Spotify (unless the peaks would clip) and usually left alone on YouTube.
- What is true peak and why does it matter?
- True peak estimates the peak level after digital-to-analog conversion, which can be higher than the highest sample. Lossy encoders (MP3, AAC) add overshoot too, so platforms ask for −1 dBTP or lower to keep the decoded audio from clipping.
- Is this the same measurement as a DAW plugin?
- Yes — the analysis is EBU R128 / ITU-R BS.1770-4: K-weighted, gated integrated loudness, 3-second short-term and 400 ms momentary windows, and 4× oversampled true peak. The numbers match Youlean, iZotope Insight, and ffmpeg to within rounding.
