Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Discord's file size limit?
- Discord free users can upload files up to 10 MB (previously 8 MB). Discord Nitro Basic allows 50 MB, and Nitro allows 500 MB. This tool targets the free tier limits.
- How does target size compression work?
- The tool calculates the video bitrate needed to fit your video into the target file size: (target size × 8) ÷ video duration = required bitrate. It then compresses at exactly that bitrate for a file guaranteed to be under the limit.
- What resolution should I use?
- 720p is recommended for Discord — it looks good on most screens and significantly reduces file size. For very long videos, try 480p. Keep Original only for short clips.
- Will the video look bad?
- It depends on the video length and target size. Short clips (under 30 seconds) look great at 10 MB. Longer videos may need 720p or 480p resolution to maintain decent quality within the size limit.
