- How does a vocal remover work?
- Our AI source-separation model is trained to split mixed audio into four stems: drums, bass, other instruments, and vocals. We return the vocals stem unchanged, then sum drums + bass + other into a single 'instrumental.wav' for the karaoke / backing track.
- How is this different from Lalal.ai, Moises, or vocalremover.org?
- Three things. (1) Free with no sign-up — Lalal.ai charges per minute, Moises requires a subscription, vocalremover.org gates downloads behind an email wall. (2) We return BOTH stems in one pass — no need to re-process to get the other side. (3) Studio-grade source separation — quality on par with the paid services.
- Is this a free alternative to Lalal.ai?
- Yes. The output quality is comparable to Lalal.ai's vocal isolation tier, with no per-minute charge and no sign-up. The free tier caps at 60s per song; for longer tracks the Pro plan lifts that cap (still cheaper than a Lalal.ai monthly subscription).
- Is this a free alternative to Moises?
- Yes for the basic vocal / instrumental split. Moises does more (drums + bass + guitar separation, pitch / tempo adjustment, click tracks) — if you need those advanced features, Moises is worth the subscription. For just splitting vocals and instrumental for karaoke or sampling, this tool is the free equivalent.
- What audio formats does the vocal remover support?
- Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, AAC, OPUS — basically any common audio container. Output: 44.1 kHz stereo WAV for both stems (lossless, ready for further editing). If you need MP3, convert the WAVs with our audio converter.
- Can I upload a music video or downloaded clip instead of an audio file?
- Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV, or MKV — we extract the audio track automatically before separating it. Useful for music videos, downloaded YouTube clips, TikToks, Instagram Reels, recorded performances, or any video where you want the vocals or instrumental but only have the video file. No need to convert it to MP3 first.
- How long does it take?
- About 30 seconds per 1 minute of audio on our GPU. A 4-minute pop song takes ~2 minutes end-to-end including upload, processing, and ZIP packaging.
- Is the karaoke instrumental clean — no vocal bleed?
- On most pop / rock / EDM songs, yes — the AI separates cleanly enough that residual vocal bleed is below audible threshold. On dense layered productions (heavy reverb on vocals, vocoded vocals, or vocals processed through guitar amps) you may hear faint vocal artifacts in the instrumental.
- Can I use the isolated vocals for an a-cappella cover?
- Yes — vocals.wav is a clean a-cappella stem ready to drop into a DAW for cover videos, mashups, sample-based productions, or vocal practice. It's lossless WAV so quality is preserved.
- Is the vocal remover free?
- Yes for short clips (under 60 seconds on the free tier). Pro plans lift the duration cap for full-length songs. Free users get 3 splits per hour.
- Does this work on instrumental-only tracks (no vocals)?
- Yes — it will return a vocals.wav with very little content (just silence + any incidental vocal sounds the model misidentified) and an instrumental.wav that matches the original. Useful for confirming a track has no hidden vocals.
