- Do the videos need to be the same resolution or format?
- No. The tool normalizes every clip to compatible settings automatically. You can combine an MP4 with an MKV, or a 1080p clip with a 720p clip.
- Can I merge many videos at once?
- Yes, add as many clips as you like. In the browser, clips that match (same format, picture size and frame rate, like clips from one camera or episodes of one series) are joined in seconds, up to about 1.8 GB in total. If a clip doesn't match, every clip has to be re-encoded, which is slow in the browser, so before a big merge starts the tool shows you which clip it is. For bigger merges, use server processing.
- Does combining re-encode the videos?
- Only when it has to. Clips that already match (same format, picture size and frame rate) are joined as they are, with no quality loss. Clips that differ, a resolution you pick or an output format other than MP4 mean every clip is re-encoded to matching settings, which takes longer.
- What happens when I merge a vertical clip with a horizontal one?
- The first clip, or the resolution you pick, sets the frame. A clip of another shape is fitted the way you choose: Black bars or Blurred fill keep the whole picture, Crop to fill fills the frame by trimming the edges, and Stretch fills it by distorting the picture.
- Do the clips play in the order I add them?
- Yes - the order in the file list is the order on the timeline, first to last. Reorder the list before processing. The first clip also sets the canvas size when the resolution is left on Original.
- Why is my merged video 30fps when the clips were 60fps?
- When clips have to be re-encoded to be joined - different sizes or frame rates, or a resolution you picked - everything is normalized to 30 fps. If you need the merged result at 60 fps, run it through the FPS Changer afterwards.
