Which bands make vocals clearer?
Speech intelligibility lives around 2–4 kHz: lift 2 kHz and 4 kHz by 3–4 dB and cut the mud at 250 Hz by a couple of dB. The Vocal clarity and Podcast presets do exactly that, and the Podcast preset also rolls off rumble below 62 Hz.
How do I make music sound like it is playing from a phone or through a wall?
Phone / radio voice cuts everything below 250 Hz and above 4 kHz, leaving the narrow band a phone speaker passes. Lo-fi keeps the bass and rolls the treble off steeply for the muffled, next-room sound.
What does the limiter do?
Boosting a band can push peaks past full scale, which clips into harsh crackle. The limiter catches those peaks just under 0 dBFS so the boost stays clean. It is a no-op when nothing is boosted.
Is this a parametric EQ?
It is a graphic EQ: ten fixed one-octave bands, each a peaking filter you move up or down. That covers the everyday jobs — bass, warmth, presence, air. Frequencies between the centres are shaped by the neighbouring bands.
