- How do I know my video is interlaced?
- Pause on a moving object: interlaced footage shows fine horizontal lines — a comb or Venetian-blind pattern — along its edges. Sources that are almost always interlaced: DV, HDV and Hi8 camcorders, DVDs of TV shows, VHS captures, and 1080i broadcasts.
- Should I choose the same frame rate or double?
- Double (50p or 60p) keeps every field as its own frame, so motion is as smooth as the original tape — best for sports, camcorder footage and anything panning. Same rate makes a smaller file that matches typical film-style playback. Both remove the comb lines.
- What is the difference between bwdif and yadif?
- Both are motion-adaptive. bwdif is the newer filter: it weaves still regions at full resolution and interpolates moving ones with a better filter, so it is sharper and cleaner; yadif is faster. Use bwdif unless you are in a hurry.
- The result judders every other frame — what is wrong?
- The field order was guessed wrong. Switch Field order from Auto to the opposite of what it tried: DV NTSC is usually bottom field first, DV PAL, HDV and broadcast are top field first.
